What is Epigenetics?

Think of it as science we’re harnessing to unlock your true age through biology and machine learning.

Epigenetics

Epigenetics is the study of how the DNA molecule’s instructions are translated into the production of proteins that make us who we are. In other words, while scientists unraveled the sequence of our DNA molecular code in 2003, in many ways only now are they beginning to understand how that code translates into our individual makeup. One of the world’s leading scientists in epigenetics, Dr. Steven Horvath at UCLA has focused his research on how epigenetics impact aging and mortality.

Epigenetics works by changing gene expression through the addition or removal of biochemical markers rather than alterations in the genetic DNA code itself. Unlike your genes, which basically stays the same throughout your life, your epigenome changes based on age, behavior and other environmental factors. This means that the epigenome is reacting to your healthy lifestyle or your two pack a day smoking habit.

What is really exciting is that we have gone beyond traditional factors to understand human lifespan at a molecular level.

Epigenetic Age

As you age, chemical compounds attach to your DNA along your epigenome and change your genetic expression. The study of these changes is called biological aging and experts are now able to calculate your epigenetic age.

Your unique epigenetic story discloses your personal health and wellness. Our technology discerns the uniqueness of you – and we are working with life insurance carriers to understand your story – in order to get the best life insurance rates available for you.

Longevity Report

Knowledge is power

When you apply for life insurance and submit your YouSurance Spit Kit, we will provide you with a personalized Longevity Report.

Our Longevity Report calculates your epigenetic age and your biological aging from which we develop your individualized mortality curve. This science feels science fiction – but it’s not! Our science is based upon completion of a statistical analysis of over 13,000 individual DNA samples that Dr. Steve Horvath and Dr. Brian Chen studied to identify epigenetic signatures that predicted individual risk of all-cause mortality.
